GAUTENG, SOUTH AFRICA — NOVEMBER 2008
Nigerian business leaders participated in the Commonwealth Business Council (CBC) Africa Investment Forum, held on 18–19 November 2008 in Gauteng, South Africa, bringing together African and international business leaders, investors, investment-promotion agencies and public-sector representatives.
The forum was organised by the Commonwealth Business Council in partnership with the Gauteng Economic Development Agency (GEDA) and was held at Gallagher Estate, Midrand. The programme provided a platform for African countries to showcase investment opportunities and projects to an international audience and strengthen business and investment partnerships. 12 African countries were represented in the investment showcase.
The 2008 forum was conducted under the theme “African Linkages for African Growth”, with discussions addressing investment opportunities in Africa, infrastructure, agriculture, information and communications technology, access to finance, trade and the implications of the emerging global financial crisis.
PASCAL DOZIE AND NIGERIAN BUSINESS PARTICIPATION
Among the prominent Nigerian business figures associated with the Commonwealth Business Council during this period was Pascal Dozie, a distinguished Nigerian businessman and then a member of the CBC Board of Management. Historical records of the CBC’s leadership during the period place Dozie alongside internationally recognised leaders, including Cyril Ramaphosa, Lakshmi Mittal and Rahul Bajaj.

Dozie was a major figure in Nigeria’s private sector, having founded Diamond Bank and played important roles within Nigeria’s financial and business institutions. He subsequently served as Chairman of the Commonwealth Business Council, further reflecting the importance of Nigerian private-sector leadership within the Commonwealth’s international business network.
The South African forum formed part of the Commonwealth Business Council’s broader programme of connecting African investment opportunities with international capital, businesses and institutions.
FRANK IKEGWUONU’S PARTICIPATION
Frank Ikegwuonu participated in a documented Commonwealth Business Council Africa Investment Forum attended by a network of prominent Nigerian business leaders and international delegates.
The photographic archive includes images showing the Commonwealth Business Council branding, Africa Investment Forum signage, conference podiums, presentation screens and accredited participants, providing a contemporaneous visual record of his presence at the event. The photographs also capture Ikegwuonu alongside Nigerian and international participants during the forum’s networking sessions.
At the time, Ikegwuonu was already active in Nigeria’s entertainment, publishing and creative industries. His participation in an international business and investment forum of this nature provides an additional historical dimension to his later work in international cultural exchange, creative industries and cultural diplomacy.
AN IMPORTANT LINK BETWEEN NIGERIA AND THE COMMONWEALTH BUSINESS COUNCIL
The 2008 forum should also be viewed against the broader relationship between Nigeria and the Commonwealth Business Council.
Earlier that year, the CBC had been involved in the West African Investment Forum 2008 in Nigeria, organised in collaboration with Nigerian public- and private-sector institutions. Records from the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission indicate the involvement of the Federal Government, the Nigeria Economic Summit Group and NIPC in the initiative.
This demonstrates that the Commonwealth Business Council’s engagement with Nigeria during this period was part of a broader institutional effort to promote African investment and strengthen international business relationships.
The South African Africa Investment Forum consequently provided another important international platform for African and Nigerian business interests.
FROM INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS NETWORKING TO CULTURAL DIPLOMACY
The November 2008 Commonwealth Business Council Africa Investment Forum is particularly relevant to the evolution of Ikegwuonu’s professional journey.
His career has subsequently expanded from publishing, filmmaking and entertainment recognition into cultural exchange, creative-industry development and international cultural diplomacy.
His work through The Nelas Academy of Arts, Media & Television, together with its international awards, film initiatives and the Africa–Eurasia Cultural Exchange & Creative Industries Summit, represents a continuation of his interest in building bridges between African creative communities and international institutions.
