Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter is one of the most influential performers of the modern entertainment era. She first achieved international prominence as a member of Destiny’s Child before establishing an exceptionally successful solo career with albums including Dangerously in Love, B’Day, I Am… Sasha Fierce, Lemonade, Renaissance and Cowboy Carter. Her work has repeatedly connected music with questions of Black identity, womanhood, history and cultural representation. She has also expanded her career into film, visual albums, fashion and large-scale entertainment production. By the 2025 Grammy Awards, Beyoncé had accumulated 35 Grammy wins and 99 nominations, making her the most-awarded and most-nominated artist in Grammy history at that point. Her career represents the extraordinary global commercial, artistic and cultural influence of a Black woman in contemporary entertainment.

The Nelas 100 Great Women of Color is a curated research and documentation selection, not a definitive ranking of all Black and African women who have contributed to global entertainment.

The Nelas 100 Great Women of Color 1975–2025 is an international research and documentation project of the Nelas Academy which is an emerging international media, arts and cultural research institution created to celebrate and preserve the contributions of Black and African women in creative arts, entertainment, music, film, modelling, poetry, fashion, pageantry and cultural presentation.
