Brandy Norwood is an American singer, songwriter, actress and television personality who became one of the defining young R&B voices of the 1990s. Her debut album Brandy established her as a major recording artist, while her television role in Moesha expanded her influence into acting and youth-oriented entertainment. Her 1998 collaboration with Monica, “The Boy Is Mine,” became one of the era’s most successful R&B singles and earned the duo a Grammy Award in 1999. Brandy subsequently continued to release music while appearing in film and television productions, demonstrating the crossover potential of Black female artists across multiple entertainment platforms. Her career is particularly significant because she helped establish a model in which a young Black woman could simultaneously become a recording star, actress and television personality.

The Nelas 100 Great Women of Color 1975–2025 is an international research and documentation project of the Nelas Academy which is an emerging international media, arts and cultural research institution created to celebrate and preserve the contributions of Black and African women in creative arts, entertainment, music, film, modelling, poetry, fashion, pageantry and cultural presentation.
