MEGALYN ECHIKUNWOKE

Megalyn Echikunwoke is an American actress whose career has contributed to the visibility of women of African heritage within contemporary American television and film. Born in Spokane, Washington, she began working professionally as a teenager and developed a career spanning network television, cable productions and feature films.

She became known to television audiences through roles in productions including 24, That ’70s Show, The 4400, CSI: Miami, House of Lies and Arrow, where she portrayed Vixen. Her film work includes appearances in Night School and other contemporary productions. Her career demonstrates the increasing presence of actors of African diaspora heritage across mainstream American entertainment.

For the The Nelas project, Echikunwoke represents an important aspect of the modern entertainment landscape: the growing visibility of women with African heritage within international television and film.

The Nelas 100 Great Women of Color 1975–2025 is a research and documentation project of The Nelas Academy which is an emerging international media, arts and cultural research institution created to celebrate and preserve the contributions of Black and African women in creative arts, entertainment, music, film, modelling, poetry, fashion, pageantry and cultural presentation.
